The “Dimore delle Badesse” Bed & Breakfast is situated only a few hundred metres from St Benedict's Abbey where Cistercian nuns arrived around 1266AD. These were the mitre wearing Abbesses, mostly relatives of the local nobility who in a sign of their social standing wore mitres and carried crosiers like the local bishop.
It was also necessary to kiss their hands in a sign of respect, an incredible privilege for any woman at that time.
